Counselling

What to expect during our sessions

Virtual therapy is like traditional in-person talk therapy. The biggest difference is that we work from the comfort of your own home.

The day of a session, you’re emailed a link to our appointment, which is hosted on Jane—a PIPA compliant platform. Once you click the link, it takes you to our room, and I’ll meet you there! At the end of our time together, the session is billed to the credit card on your account, and a receipt is emailed to you.

Neuro-affirming counselling

What does that even mean?

Here’s some examples of how I bring the neurodiversity paradigm into sessions:

  • Unmasking is welcomed: I don’t look at the camera when I’m talking, and my hands are busy bees. You do you, whatever that may be!

  • Acknowledging processing differences: This might mean having our cameras off, communicating via written messages, taking breaks, or keeping the lights dim.

  • Prioritizing identity-first language: You’re an autistic human, not just someone with autistic spectrum disorder.

  • Pushing back on sociocultural constructs of “normal”: We explore things like power dynamics and intersectionality, and we celebrate your strengths.

We’ll also talk about hyper-fixations and special interests.

My Approach

I am a person-centered counsellor, which means I am warm, empathetic, and unconditionally caring. I’ll admit when I’m wrong. I am trauma-informed and strive for cultural humility.

I lean on dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to help with topics like regulation, sticky thoughts, and boundary setting.
